I decided to write a blog about the "N" word because I hear it so often. Kids say it all the time where I work. I hear it in the locker room at the gym. I was even called that by someone I was on a date with.
Why is this word used so often and freely? How is it that a word that was used in a derogatory manner towards people of color has become a word that people of color willingly use towards themselves?
It really doesn't make sense to me. Is this word so common because people are ignorant? Is it that people lack dignity, integrity, and pride?
What is the answer? Why do people use the "N" word?

Politics
Last night, President Obama delivered the State of the Union address. I thoroughly enjoyed his speech. I love the fact that he has the ability to inspire and to give hope to the citizens of the U.S.
This morning I received an e-mail from a conservative group. I believe when I signed up to receive electronic copies of a certain newspaper, I was put on a list for this conservative group.
The group gave a survey that went something like......
Dear Fellow Conservative,
Obama spoke last night and the liberals were happy. We have to fight them and block all of their bills. Tell us what issues we should focus on.....etc.
The e-mail constantly used the word "Left." The tone was angry. It seemed as if the "conservatives" are an angry cult....at least that the feeling that the e-mail gave me.
Many politicians be of bipartisanship...but do they really mean it? I do not think so. I heard Republicans on Fox News stating they were planning meetings to find out what was wrong with President Obama's health reform plan before he even presented it to anyone?....so your plan is to find something wrong? What about what is good or right about it? Do you actually care about people having healthcare?
Unfortunately, it seems that most of the members of Congress are more concerned about who is in office and who has power. I do not believe they actually care about people...and it makes me sick!
When did politicians stop caring about the people? Thank God for President Barack Obama!

I Believe the Children Are Our Future....
Today I worked with high school students. I told them to write about a topic or issue that is important to them, and the class would discuss each topic.
We ended up talking about immigration, health care, violence, manners, love, the economy, war, and the list goes on. I was very impressed by this group of teenagers. They seemed to be aware of the world around them and they seemed concerned.
It meant a lot to me to be in a position that I could inspire and help cultivate the minds of our youth. I believe the children are our future. I believe I am the future!

Happily Ever After
I just got off the phone with someone. We spoke for about an hour and a half. He was convinced that true love is dead. He said it is impossible to find someone who would want to be with you forever, and that happily ever after is just in fairy tales.
I beg to differ. I agree that is not easy to find that special someone. I also currently am single. But is it impossible? Are we all doommed to a fate of loneliness?
I do not believe it is impossible to find that special someone who loves you and who you love in return. There is a such thing as real love and true love. I cannot wait for it to happen to me. I am ready to be i nlove.

All I Really Needed To Know....
There is a poem entitled "All I Really Needed To Know I Learned In Kindergarten." The poem expresses the sentiment that as children we learn manners. We learn that we should say "Thank you" and "You're welcome." We learn to say "I'm sorry," if we make a mistake or do something wrong. We are taught to treat all human beings with love and respect.
It seems that in the world today, there is a lack of manners. There is a lack of caring. People often abuse each other verbally, physically, and emotionally. People use hurful language. People fight. It seems that there is much turmoil in schools, in churches, in various racial and ethnic communities, in the the heterosexual and the homosexual community, etc. All of the bickering in the world causes me to ask one question: Where is the love?
What happened to what we learned as children?...don't hit people...no bullying...learn to work out your problems. Are there any kind-hearted, loving people left out there?
I am one of those people. I have a genuine care and concern for all people. I am a very respectful person. I have manners. People of the world today, respect one another. Stop the hate and show some love!
